Installation of An Drouizig Difazier.

The software An Drouizig Difazier is provided as a standalone executable, sternadur.exe.

This programs installs all the files required on your computer and performs all the necessary changes in your local Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office installations.

These three important files are installed on your computer :

  • MSSPBZ32.DLL  The spell-checker engine.
  • MSSP2BZH.LEX  The main dictionary, crypt.
  • BREZHONEG.DIC The user dictionary, empty at start.

Required settings for An Drouizig Difazier.

Once you have completed the installation, two actions are necessary to initialise correctly your spell-checker. These actions are performed from the client software. Here we are going to show two examples, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook (English versions). Please keep in mind that any other software should need the same kind of setting.

Microsoft Word

Firstly, you need to define the language for the document you are working on. In Microsoft Word you will be able to do so for any part of the text you are editing, even one single word if you wish. Please note that firs tof all you will have to select the portion of the text you want to handle.

Select the command " Tools®Language®Set Language … " from the menu of the Microsoft Word main window :

[Image]Then you need to select the line "[Image] Breton ". Uncheck the box “Do not check spelling or grammar”. Click on the button " Default " if you want to initialise the language of any new document to Breton, otherwise click on OK.

Please note that the flag [Image] proves the availability of the spell-checker on your computer.

[Image]If the line "[Image] Breton " does not show on the list, please refer to the FAQ part at the end of this document.

Secondly, you need to ensure that your personal dictionary is correctly set. Setting it enables the spell-checker to remember all the unknown words (not present in the main dictionary) it has encountered during your previous and current spell-checking sessions.

[Image]Beware that setting bad options for the personal dictionary can provoke later unpredictable and sometimes obscure warnings when starting the spell-checking session. (cf. FAQ at the end of this document).

Select the line " Options "  from the " Tools " menu. Then click on the tab " Spelling and Grammar " and click on the button " Dictionaries ".

The settings box for personal dictionaries shows.  If the line " BREZHONEG.DIC " is there, then you only need to check it and uncheck all the other ones.

Otherwise, click on the " New " button to create the file, select the " Breton " language in the list and close the box (it is very important !!!).

This file is empty at start and will fill up progressively.

User session.

The following example describes a typical user session with one of the software market standards, Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word is a programme that demonstrates the most successfully integrated spell-checking engine. Most of the other programmes (except Microsoft Publisher) do not underline (or flag in red) the unknown words and, furthermore, the checking does not occur while typing.

Microsoft Word.

So while editing a Word document whose default language has been set to "[Image] Breton " (it works for every language available), unknown words are automatically flagged in red,

You can know if the dictionaries have found suggestions by right clicking on the unknown words.

At this stage, you can select the right word if it belongs to the list displayed on top of the popup window. But note that this list is minimal and you can have access to a more exhaustive list by running the spell-checking on the whole document.

To run the spell-checking on the whole document, press F7, or select the command " Spelling and Grammar " from the " Tools " menu.

Some commands from the replacement dialog box : click on " Add " to save the unknown word in the user dictionary. If the " Add " button is grayed please refer to the FAQ at the end of this document. Click on " Replace " to replace the incorrect word by the suggestion selected. Etc.

The " copy-paste " issue.

If you have to perform a " copy-paste " to add a text buffer coming from another application to your document, sometimes it will be necessary to reselect the language for the text block your are working on.

There is a trick that consists in pasting this text buffer first in a simple text editor like notepad. This action will " clean " the buffer from all its paragraphs, fonts, languages, etc. information.

Then you can reselect this cleaned text and paste it in your editor. (Microsoft Word, for example). The cleaned text, pasted like this, will take automatically the default language set for your document.

The hyphenator.

An hyphenator is provided with An Drouizig Difazier since version 1.2.1. The goal of this tool is to cut the words at the end of a line, when this action minimizes the blank holes between the words of this line. This can be done manually or automatically. If you want to cut the words at the end of lines, it is recommended to choose a justified presentation, that is to say a text which is aligned at both sides.

You can select the block on which want to apply the hyphenation. Then you select the command " Outils->Langue->Coupure des mots " from Microsoft-Word main menu to run the process. At this stage, you can choose which mode to use, manual or automatic.

If you choose to operate in manual mode, a command box will show. It allows you to select which cut point to use amongst a set of predefined cut points calculated by the hyphenator.
